ASPIRING young chefs have battled it out to become the next Jamie Oliver or Nigella Lawson.
Sponsored by the Rotary Club of Gravesend and Meopham, 15 students in Year 9 to 11 from Gravesend Grammar School for Girls competed to take part in the Young Chef 2010, a national competition run by rotarians.
The budding food enthusiasts from the school in Church Walk each prepared and presented a three course menu of their choice within a budget of £14.
Hungry rotarians were on hand to sample the menus and choose the two winners, Eleanor Davis and Chianne Bal, who are both 15.
They go through to the regional final for the south east in Canterbury at the end of this month to decide who makes the national final.
Chairman of the rotarian club’s youth committee Alan Ridgers said: “Picking winners was difficult as every meal was enjoyable.”
