PEOPLE can get fit and experience nature by getting involved with a river project.
Rivers in Lewisham are set to receive £300,000 from Natural England and the Big Lottery Fund’s access to nature grant scheme.
The Rivers and People project provides activities such as river wades, volunteering activities, family fun days and education and training events for people to get involved with the River Pool, River Quaggy and River Ravensbourne.
A walking and cycling route will also go from the River Ravensbourne along the waterway link and improved sinage will be put up.
Lewisham’s rivers and riverbanks provide a habitat for a wide range of species including kingfishers, song thrushes, wagtails, water shrews, naturally seeding plants and a variety of freshwater fish.
