AUDIT Commission research released on a new website says the council is “performing well”.

The Oneplace site launched on December 9 allows residents to find out how well organisations such as the council and police are doing.

Bromley Council was given a three out of four star rating, ranking it as “performing well”.

This takes into account how well the council uses its resources and if it is providing good value for money.

Oneplace spokeswoman Jan Hunter said: “Most people in Bromley think it is a good place to live.

“The streets and parks are kept well, children do very well at school and most people have good health.

“Crime is low relative to other London boroughs and joint work by the council, police and fire service has reduced arson by almost two-thirds.”

The website states the council has done well at improving things such as recycling, keeping roads safe and helping disabled people to live at home.

Council leader Councillor Stephen Carr said: “I think the results reflect our council’s strengths as a high performing, value for money organisation which is always looking for ways to improve our customer services.

“I want residents to know we continue to work hard to deliver quality services and we are determined to face the next year with confidence even in these difficult times.”

However, according to the website it is not all good news for Bromley.

It gives area assessments for 152 places in the UK, providing information on issues such as health, crime and the environment.

The assessments combine the views of six independent inspectorates, including Ofsted and health and social care regulator the Care Quality Commission as well as spending watchdog the Audit Commission.

According to the website, people in the borough are still worried about crime and anti-social behaviour and there are more obese children in Year 6 across the borough compared with the year before.

Unemployment has also risen and traffic congestion is also a problem, according to the website.
