KIDBROOKE: School unveils memorial garden for pupil Matthew Webb

PUPILS have created a garden in memory of their schoolmate who died last year.

Keen footballer Matthew Webb, a pupil at Kidbrooke School, Corelli Road, died on March 29 last year from a heart attack.

After his death the school decided to dedicate their planned Japanese garden to the 17-year-old.

All pupils had a say on the design and helped to raise money for the garden over 15 months.

Head teacher Trisha Jaffe said: “Matthew was full of energy but the idea of having a garden that was a place to remember and be calm was something we all liked.”

Dad Tony Webb, 44, of Indus Road, Charlton, said: “Seeing the garden was very humbling.

“I’m really grateful to the school, Ms Jaffe and everyone involved who took the time to remember my son.”
