BUSINESS: Threshers, Wine Rack and Local off-licence closures announced

THE recession has claimed more casualties today (November 20) with the news that 11 off-licences in the News Shopper area are to close.

Parent company First Quench has announced it will be closing its Local store in Eltham, two Wine Rack shops in Bromley and Beckenham, along with eight Threshers off-licences in Bromley, Bexley, Sidcup, Longfield, Eynsford and Meopham.

There will be 54 redundancies as a result of the local closures.

A total of 381 stores across the country are to be closed according to today’s announcement, resulting in 1,908 redundancies.

Head of restructuring at administrator KPMG and joint administrator Richard Fleming said: “Unfortunately there has not been sufficient interest in these 381 stores as part of the going concern sale, so we have no option but to close them.

“However, we have had an enormous amount of interest in these sites from over 700 small local businesses and private individuals.”

Five redundancies in Station Road, Longfield

Four redundancies in High Street, Eynsford

Five redundancies in Wrotham Road, Meopham
