UPDATE - BECKENHAM: Manor Road closed after suspected robbery

Police arrested five people this afternoon (November 18) after a bank robbery in Beckenham.

Police closed Manor Road near Beckenham High Street after the robbery and witnesses reported seeing plain clothes officers swoop after the Natwest bank in the high street was robbed.

The Met police have confirmed five people were arrested by Flying Squad officers based at Tower Bridge after a raid at the bank.

All five men are in custody at various police stations this evening.

The robbery took place at 2pm and local police say they were alerted to the incident when someone at the bank triggered an alarm.

It is understood several suspects may have been caught as they left the scene.

Why is Manor Road closed? NatWest is quite a long walk from Manor Road.

I was actually thinking of Nation Wide then. NatWest is the bank on the corner by the church. Why is Manor Road still closed though? The bank is a little way away from there.

They didn't catch them AT the bank. I saw them and I think the police (who were wearing baseball caps...so I assumed them to be the armed variety) dragged them out of a car because there was a car at an odd angle in the road and one of the chaps was being sat on by one of the officers. The swines made me late for my hairdressing appointment. :-)
