A HOSPITAL is trying to raise money so it can buy specialist equipment to provide a treatment which destroys tumours.

Darent Valley Hospital is one of four centres in the UK to offer cryotherapy, a revolutionary technique used to kill cancer cells by freezing tumours of the kidney or prostate.

Tumours are turned into ice balls and the low temperature causes all the cancer cells to die.

The hospital in Dartford currently hires the equipment, which would cost £95,000 to buy.

Fundraising manager Tracey Cummins said: “Donations really do make a difference and has so far enabled the hospital to purchase some of the equipment needed which has seen a number of kidney and prostate patients benefit from the age of 11 years to 83 years.

“We need to raise a further £45,000 to complete the project.”
