A TELEVISION star will be giving residents tips on how to slash carbon emissions and fuel bills at home.

Eco-homes expert Donnachadh McCarthy, who presents BBC2's It’s Not Easy Being Green will be giving a talk at Mycenae House in Mycenae Road, Blackheath, on November 27 at 7.30pm.

The event has been organised by residents group Transition Westcombe which wants to make the borough less dependant on fossil fuels.

Group member Edward Hill said: “Many of the houses around here are Victorian – beautiful buildings but costly to heat and difficult to insulate, partly because they have solid walls that can’t be simply filled up with insulation like modern homes with cavity walls.

“Lots of Greenwich residents want to 'green' their homes but are frustrated by the expense, the technicalities or the confusing maze of grants and subsidies.

"So it’s a great opportunity to be able to pick the brains of an expert like Donnachadh McCarthy.”
