A NEW booklet, endorsed by the leaders of Bexley Council’s political groups, is encouraging more people to get involved in local politics.

Commenting on the booklet, council leader Councillor Teresa O’Neill said: “It contains all kinds of useful advice, background information and contacts for anyone considering standing for election as a councillor.

“It gives a real insight into what the role entails and how, by becoming a councillor, local people can make a real difference to their community.”

Opposition leader Councillor Chris Ball said: “This is a really handy guide to what it takes to be a councillor.

“The book describes the diversity of people who become councillors and how rewarding they find their role.

He added: It is a great introduction to local government.”

Called People Like You...Stand for Election, the booklet is is available in libraries and council office reception areas.

The next council elections will be held on May 6 next year.
