THE founder of a charity which helps young people with education and leisure projects to keep them off the streets and out of trouble has been to meet the Prime Minister and his wife at 10 Downing Street.

Florence Emakpose was nominated by Erith and Thamesmead MP John Austin as a “local hero” for her organisation World of Hope’s work with youngsters in Abbey Wood.

Mr Austin said: “I could have thought of no one more suitable.

“She has worked incessantly to help young people.

“She often did it at her own expense, while battling to get funding for her excellent work.”

He added: “She has an open door, but doesn’t wait for people to come to her, she goes out on the street and engages with them.

“She tackles anti-social behaviour, but also tackles the lack of opportunities and facilities for young people.”
