A FAMILY’S first attempt at fundraising in memory of their eight-year-old daughter has turned into a riproaring success.

Holly Gibson of Bexley Road, Erith, who had multiple health problems and disabilities, died in the summer from swine flu.

But her family are determined to raise cash to help Shenstone School in Old Road, Crayford, where Holly was a pupil from the age of two until her death.

The Gibsons’ first fundraiser was a sponsored wheelchair push, held on the running track at Erith leisure centre in Avenue Road, Erith.

Thirteen teams of pusher and pushed, many in fancy dress, took part.

Each pair had to push for 100m then be pushed for a second 100m.

The top three in each of the two races, then slogged it out in a final 100m race to find the winner.

There was also a raffle.

So far the event has raised £1,700 with sponsorship money still to come.

Holly’s mother Kelly said: “It was absolutely fantastic. It could not have gone any better.”

The family plans more events in the New Year to help buy a specially adapted minibus for the school.
