SKATERS kept themselves busy during the half-term break by washing cars to raise money to renovate their skatepark.

Around a dozen youngsters got soaking wet washing 30 cars and raised £100.

So far they are £300 short of their £1,000 target amount, which will go towards the overall cost of revamping the park in Swanley.

They are applying for a £44,000 grant from Kent County Council with the remaining cash coming from Swanley Town Council.

The £70,000 project, called Swanley Airborne Ramps, will replace the existing jumps and introduce new ramps at the skatepark in St Mary’s Recreation Ground, St Mary’s Road.

Mayor of Swanley Councillor David Coates said: “These young people are really committed to finding ways of getting money to renovate the skatepark in Swanley and are a real example to the community.

“They enjoy using the skatepark and are determined to work with the Town Council to improve this popular facility.”
