UPDATE - ST PAUL'S CRAY: Murder investigation after traveller killed

THIS photograph shows the scene inside the house where a father-of-two was killed at the weekend.

The 36-year-old, named locally as Moses Duvall, is believed to have been stabbed in Swallowtail Close in St Paul’s Cray some time on Friday night (October 30).

Police were called to the quiet cul-de-sac near Star Lane at around 12.30am on Saturday (October 31).

Ambulance crews and an air ambulance attended but the man was pronounced dead at the scene.

At the scene today (November 2) the man’s cousin, who did not want to be named, confirmed the man was a married traveller with children.

Floral tributes have been left outside the gated, two-storey family home, which remains behind a police cordon.

Tributes left at the scene

One reads: "To Mosey, we will miss you very much, so sorry this has happened, love always, Curly, Jeanette and Tanya, RIP xxxx"

Another tribute reads: "To Uncle Mosey, god bless love from Courtney."

It is thought the attack may have happened following an argument in the Priory Tavern pub in Orpington High Street.

James Bellsham-Revell, a project worker at the Bromley Gypsy and Traveller Project, representing travellers in the borough, said he became aware of Mr Duvall’s death on Saturday.

He said: “I think this is an appalling incident - someone cut down at that age.

“It will have devastated his partner and kids.

“I’m amazed - he was a likeable chap and very pleasant.”

Mr Duvall’s parents are thought to live at the travellers site in nearby Star Lane.

UPDATE - ST PAUL'S CRAY: Murder investigation after traveller killed

Chanel Walters has recently moved into the street and lives next door to where the murder happened.

She believes the man had two daughters.

The mum-of-three said: “I was not here when it happened but the man himself was lovely and would always say good morning.

“They seemed like quite nice people and a nice little family."

The 27-year-old added: “It was a bit weird coming home and seeing all this.”

A post-mortem examination took place on Sunday (November 1) at the Princess Royal University Hospital in Farnborough which revealed the man had suffered a stab wound to his chest.

Police have now launched a murder investigation and currently no arrests have been made.

An incident room has opened under the Met's homicide and serious crime command.

Anyone with any information should call 0300 123 1212 or Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.

I've been thinking!

The headline of this story is "traveller killed"
Couldnt it have been "father killed" or "husband killed"....
why make the most important thing about this story the fact that he was a traveller ??
Surely thats slightly racist ?
After all, you wouldnt put a headine saying "black boy killed" !!

Responce NS ?

pumpkin123, orpington says...
2:04pm Wed 4 Nov 09

Agree 100%. The ethinicity, colour, creed, religion is irrelevant.

Moses was a well known, well liked family man.

'Father of two, horrifically murdered'.

And why no mention of the savage attack on Sarah....

Lets hope that the police manage to catch the people involved.

And something else I've noticed.

There isn't one bad comment about Moses.
Normally on stories like these all the nasty comments start about how the person wasn't an angel or even deserved what happened.

Just goes to show that although Moses was a "Traveller" he was infact a nice fella who was respected and liked.
What a credit to his family x

pumpkin123, orpington says...

You could go through the dictionary and find many words to perhaps why people haven't made these kinds of responses:-

Guilty, ashamed, scared, disgusted an disgraced are but a few that come to mind.

I'm sure some low life out there will pipe up and try to justify it... but am convinced it will fall on deaf ears.

Why no mention in the national press either... The tragic incident in Bromley on the same night was ... so was the fight in Orpington yesterday.. but nothing on this.....

RIP MOSES X

What a sad story and what lovely comments have been made about this gentleman. I couldn't agree more with the comment about why the heading mentioned the word 'traveller' and would also like to know why this gentleman's life wasn't worth mentioning in the national press, like others this week.

As have I 'clean up cray'... but why tar everybody with the same brush. Because you have been a victim in the past, does that mean it is acceptable for this man to be at the receiving end of this crime. One thinks not. What a childish, selfish, self-centred attitude!

Do you know the motive of this killing, pumpkin123? I'm not saying that taking the lives of people is right.
I have tried to get on with those people but have been let down so many times I've given up with them. They are proud of themselves that they don't intergrate with normal society. Driving wrecklessley in uninsured cars, carrying firearms without a license, non tax-paying, making inoccent people's lives a misery.... I could go on. , Let them get on with their own lives and keep, out of ours.

You really have no idea do you???

Do you say this about all ethnics, backgrounds, colours or creeds... If so I suggest you put yourself on an isolated remote island and stay there so your little head can remain happy.

Am I a traveller - no. Do I know travellers - yes. Have I worked with traveller families - yes. Are they all the same - definately NOT.

Finally 'Clean up Cray' do you know about the motive for this murder?

One thinks not!!!!

Cleanupcray! your user name says it all really. I expect you are a one man vigilante who thinks they can set the world to rights by airing your bigotry comments on here!
The fact that Moses was a husband, dad and grandad and an innocent victim of a pointless attack which has wrecked the lives of his family is obviously irrelevant to you because your head is stuck so far up your backside with your own issues. Next time you think you are hard done by because you get 'abuse' from the local kids, think about Moses' family. A wife who has lost her husband, 2 children who have lost their dad and 2 baby boys who have lost their Grandad.
To be honest, with your attitude, I am not suprised you get verbally abused! I could think of a few choice words to say to you at the moment and no, I am not a Traveller!
RIP Mosey Xxx

Sir/Madam
The fact that I and many others suffer abuse, theft, vandalism etc. from youths and also adults who really at their ages should know better has nothing to do with the death of this family man. It is down to people of today not showing respect. Something that should be handed down from generation to generation. Children are not taught morals now, they are taught what their rights are. Now if you do not want me to contribute to this subject, especially as it is now going off into a tangent, I suggest you don't drag me into it again. Thank you.
