MOTORISTS were tested for drugs and their vehicles for any defects during police road checks.
On October 22, Kent police stop-checked 58 vehicles including Hackney cabs and private hire taxis, and found traces of cannabis in five and cocaine in one.
One Hackney cab driver had his licence revoked and cab withdrawn from service.
The checks around Dartford town centre found 23 vehicles to be unroadworthy.
Police also issued fines of up to £60 for offences such as not wearing a seatbelt and driving while using a mobile phone.
Sergeant Steve Ridley, from north Kent police’s traffic management unit, said: “This was a very successful operation.
“As well as reminding young drivers about their responsibilities on what are busy town centre roads, we were able to check that taxis used by members of the public were roadworthy.”
