A CAMPAIGN has launched to put pressure on governments for real action at an international summit this year.

Called 350, it’s aim is to unite the public, media and political leaders in finding a solution to climate change at the UN Climate Change Conference in Copenhagen next month (December).

Organisers kicked things off with 350 canoeists travelling down to the Thames Barrier in Greenwich, highlighting the threat of rising sea levels due to global warming.

The barrier protects 125km sq of central London from tidal surges.

Activist Liz Sheridan said: “This serves as a poignant reminder of the threats the capital might face if our politicians cannot reach agreement in Copenhagen in December.

“There’s no doubt that the citizens of Greenwich and London as a whole want to see real action from the world's leaders on global warming before the problem gets any worse.”
