RESIDENTS, businesses, schools and community groups have been awarded for their efforts to improve the environment.

An award for the best business premises was given to the Mulberry Centre, Amersham Vale, New Cross.

The centre brightened the garden by using hanging baskets, pretty borders and wheelbarrows filled with flowers, which is used by people with learning difficulties.

Residents of Oscar Street, Deptford, were awarded best residential planters after they created floral displays in their street.

Cabinet member for customer services, Councillor Susan Wise, said: “Without the commitment and enthusiasm of our residents as community groups, schools or as businesses, we wouldn't be in such a strong position to impress the judges from the London in Bloom contest as we do every year."

The Lewisham in Bloom competition was judged by officers from the council’s Green Scene, which oversees the management and development of all Lewisham’s green spaces, and Cllr Susan Wise.
