OLDER people living in Thamesmead have been getting together to celebrate the International Day of Older Persons.

The celebrations, organised by community trust, Trust Thamesmead, were held in The Atrium, at Teeswater Court in Middle Way.

As well as lunch, entertainment from a folk group and a singalong, a number of organisations were at the event to give older people advice and guidance on a range of issues.

Trust spokeswoman, Julia Hickson, said during the day a long-standing housing problem had been identified by a Help the Aged representative.

She added: “Some of the attendees were people who do not belong to a social group and find themselves feeling lonely and isolated.

“We hope they will join one of the nine over-50s groups in Thamesmead and begin a new social life that will make them feel part of the community.”
