BORIS Johnson has been accused of “meddling” in the Olympics after calling for the shooting event to be moved.
The Mayor of London claims shifting the 2012 shooting from Woolwich Barracks to Barking would save £10m.
But Greenwich and Woolwich MP Nick Raynsford Raynsford claims there is no evidence for Mr Johnson’s claims and says abandoning the Olympic plans would hit regeneration of Greenwich’s economy.
He joined Greenwich Councillors on a boat trip today (Oct 8) from Woolwich Pier to City Hall, donning campiagn t-shirts and delivering a letter of protest to the mayor.
Mr Raynsford said: “I think it’s crazy for Boris Johnson to be meddling at this late stage.”
Deputy Leader of Greenwich Council Cllr Peter Brooks labelled the proposal “complete and utter madness”.
Mr Raynsford now plans to lobby Olympics minister Tessa Jowell and the London Organising Committee of the Olympic Games.
