A BUS driver faces years in jail after being convicted of robbing elderly women in their homes.

Lloyd Wright, aged 49, of Billington Road, New Cross, was found guilty of false imprisonment, theft and three charges of robbery following a trial at Southwark Crown Court.

Wright preyed on vulnerable elderly women in Southwark.

On one occasion last June he forced a 76-year-old woman into her home, pushing her to the ground and demanding money.

She handed over £40 but Wright said it was not enough, forcing her into the bedroom and tying her up while he searched for more cash and demanded her PINs.

Another offence took place in May 2007 when Wright followed a 69-year-old woman to her home.

Wright knocked on the door and asked for a pen.

When her back was turned, he pushed her into the house, assaulting her and demanding cards and cash.

In November 2007 he followed an 84-year-old woman home after watching her withdraw money from the bank, before grabbing her and stealing her bank book and money.

Detective Constable Vicki Thomson, of Southwark robbery squad, said: "Wright targeted those he knew could not defend themselves and used threats and violence against them in their own homes.

"All three victims have shown great courage in giving evidence. By doing so, they have made sure he will be punished for these despicable crimes."

He was remanded in custody to be sentenced on October 13.
