A plucky South Oxhey woman conquered her fear of heights on Saturday by plummeting out of a plane for charity.
Brave Chantelle Smith, 41, put her fears to the back of her mind and leapt 13,000ft over the Oxfordshire countryside in aid of Help for Heroes – which provides direct support to servicemen and women wounded in the line of duty.
Chantelle, a housing estate officer, said she was “relieved” to be safely back on the ground.
She said: “I am very pleased to say that it went well, but I had a fantastic tandem partner Ricky Cappani who put my mind at rest and talked me through every step of what was going to happen and made me feel instantly relaxed that I was in safe hands.
“It was scary standing at the open rear end of a perfectly good plane and looking out knowing any moment I was going to have to jump, but it was also strangely exciting.
“I would like to jump again, next time just for fun, just to prove to myself that I can do it again. I would like to say thank you to all who donated money.”
Chantelle's mother Gillian Dzanado said she was extremely proud of her daughter for completing the challenge.
Mrs Dzanado said: “We could hear her screaming with excitement on her way down. She was so brave.”
Chantelle hopes to reach her target of £600. To support her visit http://www.justgiving.com/Chantelle-Smith/
