The county’s air Ambulance is flying high after receiving a cash boost from a bowls club.

Charitable members of the Herts Bowling Club, in Bellmount Wood Avenue, raised £1,400 for the Hertfordshire Air Ambulance by hosting a number of social fucntions.

At a special presentation yesterday afternoon volunteer Mary Perryman was “delighted” to receive the donation.

She said: “We are extremely grateful for the bowling club’s donation. It costs £80,000 each month to maintain this life-saving service so this donation is just wonderful.

“Every little bit helps and we really appreciate it.”

Hertfordshire was one of the last counties in the country to have its own air ambulance, but this was only possible after residents raised more than £250,000.

The 650-strong bowling club held a number of events including a gala day, arts exhibition and raffles to raise the funds.

Club President Bruce Alexander said: “We wanted to support a local charity and believed the air ambulance to be a very good cause. Thanks to everyone’s hard work and generosity we managed to raise £1,400.”

The Herts Bowling Club is looking for new members. It is holding an open day from 10am to 4pm on Sunday, September 26. For more information call 01923 239981 or visit www.hertsbowlingclub.co.uk
