A NIGHTCLUB has replaced its glass bottles with plastic to prevent them being used as weapons.
Air and Breathe in Essex Road, Dartford, made the switch last Thursday (August 20), after replacing its glass beakers with plastic cups a couple of months ago.
In April a 20-year-old woman was hit with a glass bottle inside the 1,600 capacity club, needing six stitches in her cheek.
Manager John Barnes said: “We have introduced plastic alternatives because we want to lead the way in safer socialising in Dartford.
“We have had no complaint from clients overall about the change. It is a more expensive alternative but one we feel is justified.”
The move has been welcomed by Kent Police.
Its licensing officer for north Kent Paul Diment said: “This initiative can only be a good thing for those who choose to use this venue.”
