The Hoops will feel that for the second time in four days they should have all three points in the bag following a relatively comfortable game away to Brentwood.

The Vickers struck the bar from a Gary Cook header from a corner and had another goalmouth scramble hacked away from a corner as they appeared to look the most likely to score in the early stages.

Brentwood slowly came into the game as the first half progressed and created some half chances of their own but the scores remained level at 0-0 going into the break.

It wasn’t long in the second half hour before the Vickers scored first for the third successive game with a glancing Penny header from a Winchcombe free kick on 51 minutes.

The hoops took their foot off the pedal and allowed the visitors to come back at them and sure enough a soft goal from a throw and cross into the box ended with a looping header from Lay that beat James Tedder.

In the final 10 minutes the strike pair of Ibemere and Duckworth caused problems for the Wood defence and a perfect pass from Maskell sent Duckworth clear on goal with only the keeper to beat but his shot was well saved by the Wood keeper to preserve a point for the home side.

A late chance fell to Gary Ward as a Wood defender’s header from a Hegley free kick found him in the box but his effort went wide of the post.

More points on the board for the league new boys but as for Saturday’s game against Concord Rangers it could so easily have been a maximum 6 points instead of 2 from the last two games.
