A 65-YEAR-OLD woman has been shortlisted to win a £50,000 prize after inventing a new kitchen product.

Margaret O’ Callaghan from St Georges Road, Bromley, has earned a place as one of the top 10 finalists in the Finish Diamond Standard Innovation Challenge.

The competition required people to submit an innovative idea which could help to change the future of the British kitchen.

Mrs O’Callaghan submitted an idea for the Scrudle/Scrouper, which is a multi-task kitchen utensil.

It can be used to transfer soups, stews and sauces without spilling a drop.

World renowned chef and head judge of the competition, Heston Blumenthal, said: “Her presentation on the day was fluent and confident and her product was innovative, practical and something I can actually see myself utilising in the kitchen.”

The overall winner will be announced in October and will also have the opportunity to work with Lakeland, the home of creative kitchenware, to put the product on the shelves.
