WITH the increasing popularity of grow-your-own fruit and vegetables, now is the time to think about creating your own compost to grow them in.
Everyone has kitchen rubbish, such as vegetable peelings, teabags and eggshells and many people also have garden waste such as lawn and hedge clippings.
Kitchen and garden rubbish makes up a third of all household waste and composting not only provides nourishment for plants but saves on landfill and emissions of methane gas.
Bexley Council is currently offering discount composting bins to encourage more people to make use of their organic waste instead of throwing it away.
The offer lasts until September 30, and to take advantage either order from recyclenow.com/compost or call 0845 0760223 quoting reference A4LBBEX09.
