A CAMPAIGN to warn young people about the dangers of starting wheelie bin fires has taken to the streets of north Kent.

Kent Fire and Rescue Service (KFRS) staff were in Gravesend high street and The Square, Dartford, over the past two weeks as part of the Fire’s Not Funny campaign.

They handed out scratch cards directing people to the website of their partner on the campaign, Clean Kent, a Kent County Council group promoting keeping the county tidy.

Once at the website, the young people were able to watch a short film on the dangers of wheelie bin fires.

KFRS head of community safety Stuart Skilton said: “From our work with Clean Kent, we identified wheelie bin fires as a real and dangerous issue in the county, specifically in the areas where we handed out cards.”
