A PRESSURE group has tried to raise awareness of environmentally-friendly farming - by having a picnic.
Greenwich and Lewisham Friends of the Earth met in Greenwich Park, calling on MPs to support their campaign to “fix the food chain”.
They talked to visitors about the impact of the meat and dairy industry on the environment and were joined by a giant free range chicken.
The group claims livestock production causes 18 per cent of global greenhouse gas emissions.
Group member Dave McLean explained: “The global meat and dairy industry is one of the biggest contributors to climate change, and is wiping out wildlife around the world.
“It is a tragedy that tropical forests are being chopped down in developing countries to grow food for our cows, pigs and chickens.”
