RESIDENTS in Dartford faced further power misery this morning after a generator serving the area stopped working.

More than 100 households in the Priory Road area were hit by the second power failure in a week.

Thousands of residents in Dartford as well as Bexley and Orpington suffered a three-day power outage after a fire, possibly caused by vandals, damaged high voltage cables on a bridge at the Riverside Industrial Estate, Dartford, on Monday.

Benn Coombes, who lives in Priory Road, says he woke up today to find he had no electricity.

He said: “EDF claimed that the generator had gone down and a member of the public might have tripped it.

“I can see the generator from my house and it’s in a fenced area with locks.

“How can a member of the public trip it?

“This is what caused the problem in the first place, someone breaking in.”

An EDF spokesman says power has now been restored.

He said: “Our engineers were first alerted to the generator failure at 5.17am today and took the opportunity to restore customers to the permanent distribution network.

“We apologise for the inconvenience caused and thank customers in the area for their understanding and patience in what has been a complex situation.”
