LONDONERS are being encouraged to get on their bikes in West Wickham and take part in a free cycling event.

The 18.5km bike ride which starts in Sparrows Den car park, off Corkscrew Hill, on Sunday (July 19) is just one of more than 100 routes running throughout the capital to get residents on two wheels this summer.

They take place every Sunday through to October and are led by fully trained riders from British Cycling, the governing body for cycling in the UK.

Riders have a choice of either starting their ride at 9.30am or 2pm at the car park this Sunday.

Olympic Gold medallist Sir Chris Hoy said: “As much as cycling is my day job, I love getting on my bike at the weekend to wind down and it’s a fantastic way to see a city in a new light.

“Whether you want to take some time out by yourself or enjoy a ride with family or friends I’d encourage as many people as possible in the area to saddle up and get involved.”
