ELTHAM: Charity celebrates 500th birthday

A CHARITY which provides homes for poor elderly residents has celebrated its 500th anniversary.

Residents and trustees of Eltham United Charities celebrated the historic occasion with a tea party at one of the charity’s accommodation sites, in Blunts Road, Eltham, on July 2.

The charity was formed in 1509 and has grown to now provide dwellings for 25 old people in financial trouble.

Warden of the site Pam Davis said: “This is a very important and valuable service.

“All the residents can live here independently and securely, but among people of the same age who require the same things out of life.

“It really is a happy and fulfilling place to live.”
