LEWISHAM: Website group calls for retrial of Jimmy Mizen killer

FRIENDS and family of the man convicted of killing a teenager have set up an internet group demanding a retrial.

The Justice For Jake Fahri group claims the murderer, of Milborough Crescent, Lee, was unfairly convicted of killing 16-year-old Jimmy Mizen on May 10, last year.

Following a short row with Jimmy and his brother Harry at the Three Cooks Bakery, in Lee, 19-year-old Fahri threw a glass dish at Jimmy, which smashed on his throat and severed his jugular.

But group members claim Fahri was acting in self defence and are demanding the killer’s 14-year prison sentence be quashed.

The group has 281 members and its creator Tracy O'mahoney says Fahri was protecting himself from “an onslaught of violence” from the two Mizen brothers.

Writing on the site, she said: “We will always defend Jake because he did what any one would do if attacked in such a brutal way.

“The whole thing is bloody stupid, every body with half a brain can work it out.

“N any one that knows Jake Knows it. Defend himself HELL YES! cause someone serious harm, murder them! Definately not. He's a loving boy from a loving family.”

The group was set up on a social networking site in March by friends and family including Molly Mae Fahri.

Fahri's supporters, who live as far away as California and Brazil, blame his conviction on negative press coverage.

Member of the group Marc Cloke wrote that he knew Fahri while in Belmarsh prison.

He added: “just summink about this case that feels unjustified, he deserves a retrial.

“the jury think hes just another thug who needs to be locked up, and people dont see people for who they are, put this in front of a new jury in a couple of years im sure it will be a different story.”

In April, Jimmy’s parents, Margaret and Barry Mizen, helped launch a London-wide pilot scheme called Safe Haven where shops agree to act as refuge points for people under threat of attack.

But commenting on the website Ms O'mahoney launched a personal attack on the Mizen family.

She said: “It has been well documented the amount of violence used against Jake that day.

“So i should like to point out to the Mizen family, in their quest to rid Britain of anger and violence, that like charity, this also should begin at home.”

Speaking after Fahri was convicted at the Old Bailey in March, Detective Chief Inspector Cliff Lyons, who led the investigation, said murder was the right verdict.

He said: “Jake Fahri is an aggressive young man who throughout his life continually demonstrated an inability to control his emotions and restrain his temper.

“As we have all come to know Jimmy was the exact opposite of Fahri - a peaceful, courteous person with only the best intentions.”

Members of the Mizen family were unavailable for comment.

I agree there should be a retrial. How can you be sentenced to murder for throwing a dish? Yes he shouldnt have thrown it, yes it was recklace...but there is no way he could have known what the consequence would be. It was just bad luck that it ended up killing the poor chap. He may have been a bit of a sod but that doesnt make him a murderer. I thought murder had to be pre-meditated? Lets be honest, its manslaughter at most.

My God some people are stupid. Of course murder doesn't have to be premeditated. Otherwise, you could only ever murder someone you knew and had planned to kill. Throwing the dish randomly in the air would be reckless. Throwing it at someone is far from it. That's deliberate. Do you understand the difference. Pratts like you on our juties are why people get away with crime so often nowadays.

Now now mungia1...there is no need to be so rude.

May i suggest you go back to your council house in crayford, get under the covers, put your fingers in your ears and repeat "if i cant hear them they cant hear me" over and over until this awful affair has passed over. On the flip side you could just accept that everyone is entitled to an opinion, shut down your computer and call it a night.

He was tried by a jury of his peers that would have had evidence, witness testimonies, character witness statements the lot given to them. It was in the media because it was a young lad that died, like every other murder of a teenager is. Why did he have to throw a dish at him to defend himself? He could have walked away, been the bigger person or called the police.

I think Jimmy's death is a tragedy that was avoidable full stop.

Not for 1 minute would I defend anyone that has killed another human-being for any reason, but I dont think that Fahri's sentence was totally fair. Was this intentional Murder? Surely not

It seems that we got told 1 story, by the papers (as always in light of the victim) being Jimmy as he unforunatly got killed. But it was initially 2 against 1 and I dont feel that Jake's aim was to kill Jimmy.

Society as a whole is messed up.. Its this stupid youth culture of not wanting to loose pride and walk away from either boys.

I Have nothing but respect for Jimmy's family for the dignity and way they conducted thereself which I can only describe as tragic.
But I seriously doubt 'death by glass dish' was Jake's intentions.

Maybe we should look a little deeper into how far our society has degraded over the years and what we as ADULTS have allowed it to become.

RIP Jimmy... you didn't deserve to go!

Your opinion is invalid as it's based on a lack of knowledge and presumptions. If you put as much effort into having an intelligent opinion as you have put into constructing a witty response, you'd be half way there...Interesting that you should bring wealth and class into your arguement, as you have clearly suffered a poor education, something money obviously couldn't buy you...

in the eyes of the law if you intend to do someone serious harm (i.e throwing a glass dish at someone head) then this is grounds for murder. the Mizen family have said they dont believe Fahri meant to kill jimmy but he did mean to do serious harm. The judge said Jimmy was blameless in this whole episode. I agree everyone is entitled to there own opinon but this facebook page doesn't look at the facts that was presented in court( i was there a couple of times) just what jake said. they're ignoring the 10 or so witnesses who disagreed with Jake!! Another point where this facebook talks about the mizens having there pound of flesh. from what i can see all they have done is support our community. donate mini buses to scouts and try to help people. They can support Jake all they want but they cant think the mizen family are bad???

Hope this filth rots in prison. If you attack someone, you intend to inflict damage. Whether he meant to kill him or not, that is exactly what happened. Same as if a drunk driver was to kill someone, They may not have got in the car intending to kill someone. Justice has prevailed and he will now be someones bit-ch

If he felt he was in danger from the mizzen brothers why didnt he run? If you chuck a glass dish AT someone you must know the possible damage it will do. Any scumbag who carries out acts of violence like this should be taken off the streets and kept off. Enjoy your time in prison, you deserve it.

HE'S claiming self defence?! Ha, ha, and ha again. He had the opportunity to run away when outside the shop, instead he chose to arm himself with an advertising sign, go back in and throw a glass bowl; which you don't tend to hold aloft with two arms and launch directly at people unless you want to cause them serious damage.

Plenty of independent witnesses backed up the Mizen's version of events...who confirmed Fahri's?

That's right and that's what this country needs if we want to stop the culture of violence and disrespect for others.

If the thugs knew that they could end up paying the ultimate penalty they would think twice before attacking others, be it with an intention to kill or not.

My thoughts exactly. Throwing thugs in prison for a few years doesn't mean they wont get out and attack more innocent people.

Rapists, Paedophiles, Murderers, put em all down. By taking their lives we could be saving 3 more.

Come on News Shopper, tell us the web site address for the pathetic killer’s appeal, so we all can see what scummy people think killing an innocent kid in a bakery is acceptable and doesn't deserve a life time in prison. (Well in this great country that actually means about 6 years).

They are a bunch of pratts. I dont know why they are crying and screaming injustice. The Mizen family cant just receive a visiting order to go and see Jimmy can they? He will be out in 14 years, get over it. They will see him then which is more than what the Mizens will have in 14 years. The creator of the group is the biggest moron going.

Jake Fahri, aged 19, was convicted of murder and will spend at least 14 years in prison. Jimmy Mizen, aged 16.
