MEOPHAM: Children from Meopham Community Primary School tested negative for swine flu

YOUNGSTERS at a Meopham school tested for swine flu do not have the virus, results have confirmed.

The Year 6 pupils from Meopham Community Primary School went on a school trip to a PGL adventure camp in Surrey, where they may have come into contact with the virus.

During their stay, students from another school who were at the camp at the same time, have since proven positive for swine flu.

After returning on June 26, six pupils from the party of 61 that went on the trip fell ill and were tested for the illness.

Results came back yesterday (July 3) showing the children had tested negative for swine flu.

Five of the six pupils have now returned to the school in Longfield Road.

Headteacher Martin Clinton said: “We are delighted for the children and the families.

“It can’t have been an easy time worrying about it.

“We are really happy that they are all negative and most of the children are back.”

As of July 1, there have been 24 confirmed cases of swine flu in the west Kent area, and a total of 84 across the county.

Health chiefs have warned that the number of cases could soar to 100,000 a day by the end of next month.
