A GANG of yobs launched a violent attack on a 28-year-old man after he asked them to leave a communal garden in Biggin Hill.

Peter Wawrzewski was enjoying the hot weather on Friday evening (June 26) when he claims he was assaulted by one of around 30 youths marauding through the gardens behind his flat.

He says the yobs had climbed a fence to try and get at a children’s paddling pool on the estate in Kingsmead, near Biggin Hill Airport.

Mr Wawrzewski, a machine operator, said: “Of course I was scared because there was a lot of them but I was more concerned for the children’s safety.

“When they came over the fence I moved towards them and asked them to clear off but I was hit in the face.

“I fell to ground but they were still kicking and punching me.

“They were all armed with sticks and bars but when the police arrived they ran off.”

Residents claim the attack happened when a large group of teenagers left the recreation ground at the rear of the flats at around 8.30pm and jumped the fence around the estate.

Bromley police confirmed they were called to a disturbance in the road and an ambulance crew treated Mr Wawrzewski.

Officers are now hunting a black 14-year-old boy who may have also sustained a cut to his face during the struggle.

A police spokesman added: “The safer neighbourhood team is making inquiries and we are continuing our investigations into the incident.”

Mr Wawrzewski’s mum, Jackline, says she fainted during the commotion.

“It was just like something out of a movie,” the 55-year-old said.

“The children were running around and screaming, I have never seen anything like it in all of my years.

“By the time we had retreated indoors, neighbours had called the police.”

The scene of the fight was previously covered by a dispersal order, providing police with extra powers to break up large groups, but the order ran out in March and was not renewed.
