A HIGH street store had to take books about Austrian cellar sex fiend Josef Fritzl down from the shelves after mistakenly including them in a Father’s Day promotion.

The WH Smith store in Lewisham High Street had selected a book on Fritzl as one of its ‘Top 50 Books for Dad’ display.

Called The Crimes of Josef Fritzl, the book tells the story of how Fritzl kept his daughter Elizabeth, now 43, locked in a downstairs dungeon where he repeatedly raped her, resulting in the birth of seven children.

He was sentenced to life imprisonment earlier this year.

A spokesman for the store said all the books had been taken down by this morning (June 19).

He said: “ It was an error that this book was included in Lewisham’s Father’s Day promotion and has been removed from this selection.

“The book was not intended to be part of this promotion in any of our stores.”
