THE number of teenagers killed or seriously injured on Bexley’s roads last year has fallen to its lowest level since 2005.

The latest figure from Transport for London (TfL) show the number of casualties among young people aged between 13 and 19 fell to 15 in 2008, in comparison with 22 in 2007.

Young teenagers are seen as a particularly vulnerable group, because of the need to travel on their own to school before they have fully developed the skills to recognise the risks.

TfL has just launched its latest road safety campaign aimed at teenagers and called Think! Look Out for Your Mates.

It is working closely the London boroughs on its campaign to cut young road deaths and is spending £45m this year on further safety measures.

Injuries among teenagers on Bexley roads had been rising until 2006 but have fallen steadily in the last three years.

At the same time, the numbers have been rising in Bromley and Greenwich.
