A SPECIALLY-built mobile heart screening unit will be in Blackfen this weekend aimed at young people who may have undiagnosed heart conditions.

The free screening has been organised by the charity CRY (Cardiac Risk in the Young) and electrical firm Philips and is being done in memory of teenager Adam Donnelly from from Gloucester Avenue, Welling, who died from a heart attack, aged 17, in 2004.

His parents Julie and Jed have raised more than £30,000 for CRY since Adam collapsed while playing volleyball during a family holiday to Cyprus.

He was later found to have had an undiagnosed heart condition.

Mrs Donnelly said: “We are convinced if Adam had been screened, it would have been picked up beforehand.”

The screening is aimed at young people aged between 14 and 35 and the unit will be based at the Somerfield Supermarket in Westwood Lane, Blackfen.
