A MOTHER of two plans to donate unwanted school uniforms to children in Africa.

Alison Rouse of Oaklands Road, Dartford has written to 80 primary and secondary schools in the Bexley borough to see if their pupils would consider donating any items of school uniform they no longer wear.

The clothing will then be sent to Cinsta East Public School in Cinsta, South Africa.

The 55-year-old said: “I first visited the school when I was back packing around Africa five years ago.

“The children performed in a concert where I noticed that they had to share uniforms because not every child could afford to have one.

“I know that when my children were at school there was always a piece of odd uniform that was of no further use, but once I saw these children I realised that these could be of some use.”

She added: “I raised just under £700 when I ran the Paris marathon in April, this will cover the cost of transporting the uniforms to the school.”
