LONDONERS are being warned by the police against buying motorcycles containing stolen parts.

The warning comes on the back of an investigation by the Met which found stolen bikes are being given new identities and resold to unsuspecting buyers.

Detective Inspector Will Young, from the Met's Stolen Vehicle Unit, said: “We have recovered stolen bikes from people from all walks of life, including from dealers.

“These unsuspecting purchasers are left without the bike they love or any recompense for it."

The police advise people buying a motorcycle to carry out simple checks, including checking the paper work matches the license plates, running a credit check, and making sure the vehicle is properly secured.
