PRINCESS Royal paid a carers charity a visit to mark its 21st anniversary.

Carers Lewisham which supports people who provide help and support to friends or relatives with illnesses or disabilities, celebrated 21 years of service on May 28.

The charity invited Princess Anne along to its centre in Waldram Place, Forest Hill to mark the occasion.

The royal chatted to staff about their work and met carers who have used the centre's services which include information and advice, counselling, therapy, respite care and young carers support groups.

A spokesman for the charity said: "For many years the Princess Royal has worked to promote the cause and contribution of the UK’s six million carers, who often face a life of poverty, isolation and stress due to their caring role.

"It was great to have her here."
