The Churchill Theatre Youth Group has already performed “Heartbreak Beautiful” to sell out audiences at the Churchill Theatre, Bromley and Hampstead Theatre in London, and their one hour performance is the chosen production to move to the Olivier Stage at the National Theatre.

Dan (Charley Ruane) and AJ (Diderik Ypma) are two brothers at the centre of Christopher William Hill’s new play “Heartbreak Beautiful” (commissioned by the National Theatre as part of the New Connections competition). After the death of their father, both begin grieving in their separate ways; Dan by pushing AJ’s athletic talent to the limit, and AJ by spending his time dwelling on the concepts life and death. But at St Bart’s Comprehensive, life must go on! Chavvy school-girl Amber (Jessica Fitch-Bunce) longs for a life on benefits with AJ, their kids and KFC meal deals every other day. AJ, however, looks to a different life with the shy and geeky Ellie Martin (Rowan Williams-Fletcher), who is, unfortunately also the object of the hilariously nerdy Oscar’s (Elliott Gregory) desires. Teenage pregnancies, fights, school dinners, kleptomaniacs, killer bird bees, perverts on school grounds, love, braces and Jeremy Kyle are all central to this fast-paced teenage comedy. Performance: 7th July 2009 at 8pm Tickets on sale now for £4-£5 at the National Theatre website.
