A RESIDENT has described desperately trying to save a teenager's life after he was "stabbed in the leg" in a block of flats.

The 18-year-old man, who nearby residents believe was called Adam, died on a stairwell in Shearwater Court, Abinger Grove, Deptford, at around midday yesterday (May7).

Bernadette Lee who lives on same estate saw the teenager lying in a pool of blood before rushing outside to try to stop the bleeding with tissues.

The 38-year-old said: "I looked out and saw that something was going on.

"When I took a closer look I saw a young lad lying there bleeding at the bottom of the steps.

"He was Turkish looking and had been stabbed in the leg.

"There were two boys down there who were trying to help him and I rushed out with some tissues to try and help by wrapping them around his leg.

"He was so quiet. His eyes were open but he didn't say a word.

"We just couldn't stop the bleeding. It was just horrific."

An ambulance arrived along with Met police officers but the youngster was pronounced dead at the scene.

Ms Lee added: "It is absolutely sickening to think that this sort of stuff goes on so close to my home.

"There is a lot trouble around here. People are always buying and selling stuff and carrying knives.

"What if a little kid had found the poor lad.

They would have had to live with that for the rest of their life."

The man’s next of kin have been informed but the teenager will not be formally identified until later this afternoon.

A 20-year-old man and another man, aged 18, have been arrested in connection with the death.

They are currently in custody at a south London police station.

Anyone with information on the killing should call the Met's information room on 0208 721 4906 or Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
