A VOLUNTARY group is calling on people to donate a shoebox of goods to send to disadvantaged families in Belarus.
The Biggin Hill and Westerham Lions Club is appealing for donors to make up boxes specifically for either a boy or a girl or a mother and father.
Donations will be sent to the region of Gomel, an area that suffered huge radiation following the nuclear disaster that struck Chernobyl in Ukraine in 1986.
Boxes can be taken to a collection point behind the petrol station at TMC Gas Power, Main Road, Biggin Hill, between 9am and 4.30pm Monday to Friday, from now until July 2.
Club president Malcolm Lowing said: “Just 23 years on from the disaster, Gomel region is still a relatively poor and almost forgotten part of Eastern Europe.
“It is left to charities like ours to ensure that the plight of these people is not forgotten.”
