TESCO is set to open its doors to shoppers having now filled all 430 posts at the new Orpington store.

There were 3,000 applications for jobs at the Earls Way store and now all members of staff have been placed from managers and team leaders to part-time checkout staff.

Many of the jobs were sourced from Job Centre Plus at the Walnuts shopping centre in Orpington, with 25 of the positions filled with former Marks and Spencer and Woolworths staff.

Store manager Andy Cruttenden said: “These are all local jobs for local people and I am very proud to have played a part in breathing new life into the heart of the Orpington community.”

The new 10,000 sq m supermarket opens on May 18.
