RESIDENTS are being urged to vote in next month’s European elections.

Lewisham Council is calling on eligible residents in the borough to join the electoral register and vote in the European Parliament elections on June 4.

The council’s chief executive Barry Quirk said: “We want to make sure that nobody misses out on their right to take part in these elections because they are not registered to vote.

“Some people think that you are automatically registered to vote if you pay council tax, but that is not the case. You need to be on the electoral register to use your right to vote.”

To register to vote in this election you must be a British, Irish, Commonwealth or European Union citizen living in the UK.

The deadline to register is next Tuesday (May 19).
