A CARETAKER is raising money for a local youth club by walking 31 miles in one day.

Keith Farmer, of Shalford Close, Orpington, is the chairman of the Darrick Wood Community Project and caretaker of the Darrick Wood Estate.

He is hoping to raise hundreds of pounds by walking from the Darrick Wood Community Centre to the London Eye - and back.

He said: “Our community centre houses a successful youth club run by Bromley Youth Services and I wanted to do something to improve the facilities for the young people on the estate.”

Mr Farmer has elected to walk the 31-mile course rather than competing in last month’s marathon.

He said: “My knees struggle enough with long distance walking - they definately couldn’t cope with running.”

Mr Farmer will set off from the community centre at 9am on Sunday and hopes to be home before nightfall the same day.
