VISITORS to a house fitted with energy saving technology are being inspired to make their homes greener.

Greenwich Council’s Eco House, in Plumstead, was opened last September and more than 200 people have visited the 80-year-old property since.

The house is fitted with cavity wall and lost insulation, energy-efficient central heating, low-energy lights, removable 20-litre recycling bins built into kitchen units, and water butts outside.

More than 50 people visiting the house have signed a pledge to make at least one change to their homes, including turning the thermostat down, investing in better insulation, and using energy efficient light bulbs.

A council spokesman said: “Visitors have found this refurbished house a useful tool to assess what they should do with their own property in terms of energy efficiency.”

The house is open from 10am to 4pm every Thursday, and appointments can be made by calling 02089 215578 or emailing ecohouse@greenwich.gov.uk
