INSTEAD of running the London marathon a class of indoor cyclists rode their way in time to the race.

At Downham Health and Leisure Centre in Moorside Road, Bromley, the group of 34 watched it on a large TV screen and began peddling as the starting sound was given.

When the winner crossed the finishing line 2 hours and 10 minutes later, they all cheered and finished their sponsored cycle, raising around £600.

Their teacher Elle-Marie Patrick said: “The event was fantastic, the atmosphere was unbelievable- they were all really enjoying it.”

The 45-year-old came up with the idea as she wanted to raise money for the Myasthenia Gravis (MG) Association which is a charity which supports people suffering from MG.

It’s a cause close to her heart after her 44-year-old sister Norma was diagnosed with the condition, which causes people to have weakened muscles, making it hard to move, eat, even smile.
