THE sun was shining on staff from Apex Contractors as they helped clean up a section of the River Cray.
A group of eight volunteers teamed up with environmental charity, Thames21 to enhance the river at the Old Mill in the High Street in Bexley Village, which is where the headquarters of the construction company is based.
The group took part in the clean-up on Friday (APRIL 24) with Thames21 riverkeeper Ashe Hurst overseeing the project.
They removed litter and weeds, planted reed beds, painted the footbridge in the High Street, widened the river to improve water flow and helped build islands to create new habitats for wildlife.
Mr Hurst said: “The clean-up was an opportunity to get the staff at the premises involved.
“It was a nice friendly atmosphere and the sun was shining.
“From our point of view, everything we set out to do, we did.”
