HEALTH experts are giving residents advice on hygiene as the threat of a swine flu pandemic increases.

NHS Greenwich is urging residents to cover their mouths after coughing or sneezing, to carefully dispose of dirty tissues, and make sure they keep their hands clean.

Jane Schofield, NHS Greenwich chief executive, said: “The World Health Organisation is investigating and testing this particular virus.

“Our advice is that employers, families and community groups repeat the message that thoroughly washing your hands with soap is a good safeguard against any viral infection spreading.”

More than 100 people have died from the virus in Mexico and two cases have so far been confirmed in the UK.
