CHILDREN and adults helped keep a sports field clean by spending a day picking up litter.
Around 45 residents took part in the clean-up of Hervey Road sports field, in Hervey Road, Blackheath, on April 26.
The day was organised by community group The Friends of Hervey Road Sports Field, who are campaigning to protect the field which is being considered as the site for a school's relocation.
Group chairman Susan Proudfoot says she was surprised by the amount of litter collected.
She said: “It seems people have been dumping stuff around the edges of the field.
“It was good to get everyone into the sports field to see how beautiful it is.
“People do care about the sports field and don’t want to see it go down and down.
“Seeing all the litter collected gave us a great sense of achievment.”
